Over 36 million people filed for unemployment this year in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. All unemployment benefits are considered taxable income.

By January 31, 2021 you will receive a Form 1099-G that will show your total benefits and taxes withheld.

Under the CARES Act an additional 13 weeks of unemployment benefits were provided. This extension is called the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits.

Through July 31, 2020 an additional $600 was included each week with the EDD payments. These additional monies are also considered taxable income.
